OUR FOUNDER

Saiyid Hamid Academy is named after an illustrious individual who is the moving spirit behind the Indian Education Foundation under whose aegis the school is operating. Saiyid Hamid Sahib was the chairman of the foundation and has been at the forefront of creating awareness of the importance of education within the Muslim community. He had a very distinguished career in the I.A.S., was subsequently Vice-Chancellor of A.M.U. and chancellor of Jamia Hamdard. He is credited with spreading the message of

  • literacy and education;
  • health and hygiene:
  • inter-communal harmony and
  • social reform amongst Muslims across the length and breadth of the country and is seen as the ‘Muslim face of India’.

Janab Saiyid Hamid worked extensively for the upliftment and betterment of Muslims and other Minorities, encouraging the youth towards higher studies and Nation Building. As the Honorary secretary of Hamdard Education Society, he established Hamdard Public School and started Hamdard Study Circle, a premier coaching and guidance cell for Indian Civil Service Competitions. A large number of successful candidates are being placed in the higher Civil Services from there every year.

He was also the founder editor of the fortnightly journal, “Nation and the World” and wrote for the community’s development in the social sphere. In the Sachar Committee, he was a silent contributor of substantial inputs.

An educationist,reformist,author and the tallest figure in the Muslim academia, Janab Saiyid Hamid was conferred Ross Masood Lifetime Achievement Award 2014 for Excellence in Leadership, Community and Public Service by the Vice- President of India. He was the recipient of various other awards including Sanskriti Award, Urdu Academy award, Hindi Academy award and National Fellowship Award by the Government of India.
